Coff's Harbour to Kirra Beach

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well, we miss you all lots. We have had a busy few days.
We started out day 8 by exploring Coff's Harbour. We walked along the pier and saw a really neat sea turtle as well as lots of cool fish. We walked up to mutton bird peak, where there was an amazing view.
From Coff's harbour, we drove North to Byron Bay- by far the coolest little surfer town we've seen yet! We got there late at night and tried to check into a super fun hostel, but non of us were feeling tip top so we didn't want to bunk with others. The receptionist suggested a little beach house that her friend rents out, so we opted for that instead. It was such a cool place to stay! In the morning, we spent some time at the beach and then had a nice relaxing lunch. We walked around the townsite, lots of cool little shops (I picked up your sarrong, Sam). We finished off the day by having a beer on a sunny patio overlooking the ocean (Kelly of course did not have beer, a Bloody Mary instead). Before heading to our next destination, we took a drive up to the light house (stunning view- Eddie got lots of cool pictures at sunset). From there we walked to the most easterly point of Australia and saw some more whales off the shore- so amazing!
From Byron bay, we drove to our next stop at Kirra Beach (one hour south of Brisbaine on the Gold Coast). We have a nice condo here for the next few days. Today, we hung out on the beach for a few hours (2 minute walk to the GIGANTIC beach). Kelly went for a run on the beach and Rhonda took a walk and found some more sea shells. Jesse was in the water the whole time (surprise surprise). After lunch, we drove to the Curumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. It was an outstanding sanctuary! The very first thing we did was... HOLD A KOALA!!! SOOOOOO fuzzy and cute! We had so much fun with our Koala Leighton. We also fed some more soft kangaroos, checked out the dingos and echidnas (spiky little guys) and saw a giant crocodile. Rhonda and Kelly got to hold a baby saltwater croc- so heavy and cool to experience. He'll get to be up to 1000 pounds and something like 7 meters long!!! To round out the day, we saw a really neat Aboriginal show with digeridoo and dancers (Ry, I am so buying you one of those- we'll have to learn to play!)
We'll add pictures at our next stop- this computer won't let us.

Tonight we are hanging out in our room and relaxing. Tomorrow it's off to Surfer's paradise and Jesse and Eddie are going to plan a day for kite boarding and diving.

Nikolas, we still haven't seen an anteater, but the platypus' are sooooo neat! We're keeping our eyes out for more cool creatures to tell you about.

We'll check in soon!
Cheers from down unda!

Kelly, Jesse, Eddie, Rhonda

Hey guys! Sounds so cool I'm glad you guys are enjoying things. What kind of whales did you see? We went whale watching yesterday and I got to see dozens of Orcas! We even got to catch a glimpse of a baby one!! It was by far one of the coolest things I have ever done. My favorite animal in Australia is the echidna, so I'm glad you got to see them! I made it through my first week of dance, and surprisingly, I still have function in most of my muscles!! Josh finished science camp on Friday and they prepared a show for us. They blew up a 2 litre pop bottle with liquid nitrogen it was cool and really big!! Anyway, Talk to you soon. Do you guys have plans for your anniversary? Geoff's parents have been married 40 years today.

Wow, sounds like you guys are really laying some tracks down there. Is the weather getting much warmer as you've headed north?? Hope so, it sounds like you've been enjoying some nice relaxing time strolling the beaches so that's good. Remember, that's what vacations are for!!
I can't wait to hear all about the kite boarding and diving, I bet it will be unforgettable. The wildlife down there sounds great, hope you've taken lots of pics to share with us!
Ry and I headed to the mountains for the weekend with the pooches(of course) for some R and R. Ry pretty much spent the days fishing with Diesel and I just relaxed by the river in the sun. We didn't make it to the fireworks for Thunder in the Valley...the traffic can be horrific and we didn't want to attempt the drive.
We're heading out to the movie tonight with Alyssa(she's home from BC for the week)...we're seeing the Dark Night, should be a good one.
My neck is slowly healing with physio and acupuncture to come this week. Definitely much better than the start of last week.
We've been told it may be time for the walk through for the house at the end of this week but we'll believe it when it actually happens.
Glad to hear you guys are having such a great trip, we love receiving updates and can't wait to hear what's next.
Be safe, lots of love...
Ry and Jenn

Oh my gosh it sounds like you are all having a terrific, fun, busy vacation. I can't wait to hear all the adventure stories and seeing all the pictures. Update from our side of the world.....Eric, Sara and Spencer are all working and all have boyfriend/girlfriends (keeping us on our toes)and Kassandra, Kohl and Alan are spending the afternoons this week with me and Allan (we have taken the afternoons off work). Allan and my vacation in BC was excellent. Allan proposed in front of a waterfall at Nakusp (on one knee and everything) The children are all very excited and Sara and Kass have started planning shopping trips already. Have fun and keep safe!!!! Love Roxane and family

Well my first attempt (dumb blonde I guess) didn't show up where it was supposed to so I am sending it again...
It is really great to get your updates, I just get to relive our travels Down Under. My relates live in the Blue Mountains and we spent a lot of time there.
Ed, Vic had the same trouble with windshield wipers and signals (might be genetic!! Ha Ha). Keep up the good work, and keep having great fun. Can't wait for your Barrier Reef experiences.
All is well here.
Love Ona

I'm so glad you guys are having an awesome time. It sounds like a pretty action packed adventure. I can't wait to see all your pictures when you get back. Nothing much is new here....the big headline was that Calgary Bylaw was giving rafters lifejacket and drinking tickets if that gives you any idea about how exciting things are! But it is a beautiful day (30+) and we can't complain about sunshine! Hope you continue your fun!

Hey guys!

Sounds like you are having a blast! Opera house, koala, whales - oh my! Sounds like the trip has just been amazing so far!
I hope though that the weather will warm up a little bit before your kite board/surfing day!

The past week has been pretty hard for me. My Papa passed away last tuesday (15th). The funeral was yesterday (21st), so needless to say the past 7 days have been busy, long, hard days. The service was quite nice though and it was good to see all of the visiting family.

Well, I hope that you guys continue to have tons of fun!

Take care,

Vikki
